Design Lab D
This unit is oriented towards developing applied skills in product and spatial design. It encourages you to synthesise and apply your knowledge and practical skills acquired in units such as Product Design, 3D Design, Ergonomics, and Spatial Design.
Spatial Design
This unit deals with the technical and artistic methods of representing spaces rather than objects. Spatial design gives you an insight into how to combine the design of spaces and their surfaces using both digital and manual methods of representation.
Ergonomics
The main aims of this unit are: to provide a theoretical viewpoint of the concept of Ergonomics; illustrate its significance and applicability to contemporary design and showcase its prevalence in day-to-day processes and interactions; and explain related concepts such as universal design, inclusive design, and accessibility that have together led to the evolution of the field and extended its interpretation to the digital dimension.
3D Design
This is a project-based unit that covers modern tools and methods for 3D design and development.
Product Design
This unit will introduce you to the principles of Product Design and will provide you with skills to develop successful commercial and non-commercial products, while at the same time identifying the role of creative experimentation and critical evaluation.
Design Lab C
The aim of this Lab is to enable you to develop a practical approach by addressing the challenges of creating an engaging narrative and applying relevant principles of storytelling and interaction design.
Elements of Design
This unit will provide an in-depth understanding of design principles and elements as a foundation for applied visual design practice. The unit will introduce fundamental design principles of balance, alignment, proximity, space, repetition, and contrast, among other key facets, and discuss how these can be harmoniously articulated as per the requirements of a design brief to create an effective and engaging visual solution. The coursework will challenge students to develop perceptual skills, sensitivity, creative awareness, and the technical know-how necessary to handle a variety of design media in contemporary culture and industry.
Visual Culture
The main goal of this unit is to enable you to foster an educated understanding of contemporary visual culture, through the analysis and discussion of visual artifacts. This interdisciplinary subject explores the meanings and effects of visual images and ways of looking.
