In this unit you will be able to interact with contents, participate in several challenges and get to know your tutors and peers. We wish you a pleasant experience!

Design & Creative Theory

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit examines the importance and use of design and creativity in artistic and professional practice and will look at the theory, history and practices commonly associated with creativity and design.

Observation Drawing

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit provides a structured introduction to the skills of drawing using a wide range of media and methods and encourages you to look at things in a selective way, giving you the tools to record your observations as a method of formal visual research.

Visual Culture

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
The main goal of this unit is to enable you to foster an educated understanding of contemporary visual culture, through the analysis and discussion of visual artifacts. This interdisciplinary subject explores the meanings and effects of visual images and ways of looking.

Elements of Design

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD

This unit will provide an in-depth understanding of design principles and elements as a foundation for applied visual design practice. The unit will introduce fundamental design principles of balance, alignment, proximity, space, repetition, and contrast, among other key facets, and discuss how these can be harmoniously articulated as per the requirements of a design brief to create an effective and engaging visual solution. The coursework will challenge students to develop perceptual skills, sensitivity, creative awareness, and the technical know-how necessary to handle a variety of design media in contemporary culture and industry.

Design Lab A

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
The Design Lab A which runs parallel through the whole of term 1 will enable you to understand the evolution and implementation of different research and planning methodologies of the design process.

Visual Language

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit develops an understanding of visual language as it is used in design practice and theory. It provides a theoretical foundation of knowledge that underpins visual communication.

Digital Drawing

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit aims to introduce you to the use of digital graphic tools and software that support the visual Design process. It aims to provide an understanding of the connection and transition between manual and digital drawing and to enable creative expression in digital drawing through the use of different techniques.

Science Applied to Design

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
The aim of this unit is to provide you with basic theory and knowledge applied to 21st century design. The unit is taught thematically and will enable you to interpret phenomena, languages, technologies and measuring tools, which are useful to the integration of design thinking.

Typography Design

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD

This unit discusses how the visual manipulation of words can bring great insight into text functions, enhance clarity and produce impressive visual communication. Students will learn the fundamentals of typography such as typographic elements and principles and how to use them effectively and creatively. The unit will also visually explore ideas through projects embracing typography as both information and art — that complements other learnings from the term, such as on visual discourses and forms generative resources for the BA design program as a whole.

Design Lab B

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
The Design Lab B will run across the whole of term 2 and is dedicated to developing applied skills in Graphic and Communication Design.

Design Interactions

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit gives the opportunity to acquire knowledge about the different techniques used in User Experience and Interface Design. It focuses on processes, best practices, design methodologies, acquiring knowledge in Figma software and introduction to design systems. At the end of the unit, you will have acquired user-centred design skills, from immersion to technical design.

2D Design

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD

This unit will give you the creative and technical skills you need to work in the expanded fields of digital 2D drawing with a synergy between theory and practice.

Multimedia Methods

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit will provide you the tools necessary for a broader critical and theoretical awareness of multimedia objects in contemporary culture and you will learn how to integrate and produce visual elements for digital content.

Moving Image

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit is dedicated to providing you with a well-rounded approach to moving image production theory and practice. It will enable you to consider and create moving image projects for commercial or artistic purposes, understanding the history and context of this activity.

Design Lab C

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
The aim of this Lab is to enable you to develop a practical approach by addressing the challenges of creating an engaging narrative and applying relevant principles of storytelling and interaction design.

Product Design

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit will introduce you to the principles of Product Design and will provide you with skills to develop successful commercial and non-commercial products, while at the same time identifying the role of creative experimentation and critical evaluation.

3D Design

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This is a project-based unit that covers modern tools and methods for 3D design and development.

Ergonomics

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
The main aims of this unit are: to provide a theoretical viewpoint of the concept of Ergonomics; illustrate its significance and applicability to contemporary design and showcase its prevalence in day-to-day processes and interactions; and explain related concepts such as universal design, inclusive design, and accessibility that have together led to the evolution of the field and extended its interpretation to the digital dimension.

Spatial Design

Course categoryAutumn Intake: OCT 23 BAD
This unit deals with the technical and artistic methods of representing spaces rather than objects. Spatial design gives you an insight into how to combine the design of spaces and their surfaces using both digital and manual methods of representation.
